AVE Code of Conduct

CODE OF CONDUCT

The Atlas of Variant Effects Alliance believes that a diverse and inclusive community is absolutely essential to the achievement of our shared scientific goals.

AVE welcomes participation from around the globe. Our community members bring with them a wide variety of professional, personal, and social perspectives; whatever these may be, we strive to treat colleagues with dignity and respect.

We are committed to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone regardless of physical appearance, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, (dis)ability, age, race, religion or national origin.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

We expect all members and contributors to maintain a professional environment and to treat all colleagues with courtesy and respect.

The following kinds of behaviors in all AVE platforms and events are encouraged:

  • Showing courtesy and respect towards every member of the community

  • Being respectful of different viewpoints and experiences

  • Being transparent about conflicts of interests

  • Gracefully accepting constructive criticism

  • Using welcoming and inclusive language

  • Being direct, but professional

  • Respecting people’s boundaries

  • Being aware of the dynamics of power and privilege, especially of how much time and space you are taking up

UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

The following will not be tolerated:

  • Discrimination

  • Harassment

  • Sexual harassment

  • Disrespectful behavior

  • Violence

REPORTING CODE OF CONDUCT VIOLATIONS

If someone violates this code of conduct, you are urged to report as soon as possible using the Code of Conduct Incident Report Form, which is closely monitored by AVE project manager Lara Muffley and the Executive Committee chairs.

If you are in immediate danger please contact your local law enforcement agency.

The AVE alliance takes our code of conduct seriously and penalties for non-compliance could include suspension or expulsion.

This AVE Alliance code of conduct and standards will be shared on the AVE website, and will be provided to new contributors when they join committees, interest groups and workstreams.

If you are interested in further developing this Code of Conduct and Standards please contact project manager, Lara Muffley, muffley[at]uw.edu.
